Mahoney's was founded in 1960 by Harold and Irene Mahoney at the corner of Sunset Drive and Knob Creek Rd. It started as a simple Army/Navy store. but eventually evolved into a premier outdoor store in 1970. |

When son Dan returned from the Army, Mahoney's began its evolution into the premier outdoor store it is today. Dan added sporting categories for clothing, footwear, hunting, and camping. |

1980 |
Dan's wife Katie joined the business in 1980 and took over the management of the ladies department. This addition added just the touch the department needed to make it the best women's apparel stop in the area. |

1991 |
In 1991 the areas largest full service fly fishing department became a part of the Mahoney's history. It is now the premier stop for fly fishermen of any caliber. |

1992 |
Dan's son Sean joined the business in 1992, and immediately became the firearms department manager, and the chief buyer for the archery, firearms, muzzle loading, reloading, cutlery, and paint ball categories. Sean is available to answer questions any time. |

1993 |
In 1993 mahoney's Outfitters opened on Roan St. in Johnson City. They are a specialty outdoors store featuring hiking, camping, climbing, and paddling categories. The new store also helped make room for an even more extended firearms/hunting department. |

2003 |
In 2003 Mahoney's opened it's third location in Abingdon, VA. It also boasts a large hunting, archery, reloading, and paintball store. It is S.W. Virginia's premier hunting dealer. |

2004 |
This year Mahoney's is doubling floor space at the original location on Sunset Dr. to provide even better service to the public. |

2005 |
Mahoney's opens the newly remodeled store with 20,000 sq. feet of sportsman's paradise. Our Outfitters store, previously located on N. Roan St., moved into the Sunset Dr. location to make shopping more convenient than ever. |
